Please use this thread to discuss whatever you've been reading lately. Elaborate (without spoiling!) on an eBook you have recently finished or are currently reading with a short 1-2 sentence synopsis.

Initial impression: very easy to set up and connect to the Kindle. But it was surprisingly difficult threading the lanyard strap (both the generic one it came with and my own lanyard) through the teeeeeny tiny lanyard holes. Never really had that issue with third-party page turners before. The clicker and its buttons do feel unnecessarily large, but could be great for those with accessibility needs. Very happy with the response rate of the clicker and it automatically stays connected to the Kindle upon waking up the device.

2024 Kindle Basic for size reference.

PS: search the thread for additional pictures by me! There is no yellow band issue. The other Paperwhite is my 2024 PW, both set at max brightness and 0 warmth. The buttons feel nice and clicky. You can flip the Kindle upside down to read lefty. Not too heavy with the case on, but definitely heavier than my 24 with the premium leather case. The Kindle automatically detects the cover when you put it on. If you have any specific request for pics, let me know.

Update 2: I read for an hour and boy have I missed buttons.

Those of you who have been planning on getting the colorsoft, did you change your mind?

As all of us in this community already knows, the kindle has a superior reading experience to a phone. You don’t have to hold or see a Duo to know that. The inner nano texture display is not easy on the eyes by any means, despite what some reviews are saying. E-ink displays will always be better than typical backlit blue light displays.

With that being said, the versatility with the form factor of the Duo is soooo nice. It’ll probably be 5+ years from now, but if Kindle or any other e-ink reader could come out with a versatile device like this (as far as orientation and sizing goes), it would be perfection.

2024 colorsoft se on the left new fig colorsoft se on the right. New cs less sharp and all over greenish yellow, way less detail on the cover images. Even though old cs has the gradient yellowing on the bottom it is much whiter and sharper. Both set on vivid 20 brightness no warmth. Clicker works on both, seems ok so far

Well it seems I got lucky and they delivered it a day early. My cover w buttons is arriving in a week's time.

For context, I am upgrading from an Oasis 9th gen 2017 model. I regret not upgrading to the warm light one a few years after mine, but I always thought they would release an improved updated version, better battery etc. You know how that wait ended. Don't laugh.

So I finally got this new one. Seduced by the buttons on the cover. And I hoped that almost 10 years of screen improvements would be noticeable. The warm light is much needed as I read before I sleep.

I am not a reviewer, so just treat these thoughts an amateur's first impressions. The pics were all taken on an iPhone, nothing fancy.

I really like it. The aluminum finish is so Oasis-like, it feels good in the hand. The text is noticeably crisper due to the improved contrast and much deeper black levels. It feels fast in response to the touch. I'll just shut up here and post some pics. Btw, I took one pic at full brightness in the dark for those who requested it. Don't think I have the lines others are talking about, but honestly I'm not sure what to look for. For those that are waiting for theirs, good luck, I hope your delivery is soon.

Ps. Any uneven screen contrast is just down to the lighting/reflections in my room, tried my best to minimize it.

Currently enjoying another read through the Harry Potter books. No matter how many times I read them, I never get bored. They’re just such a good, cosy read!

Max brightness, 0 warmth, vivid. As I was taught by the old masters here.

Pretty palatable transition so far coming from a first generation scribe to this. Can already tell it will help upgrade homeschooling. The colors for science and history lessons are pretty important, it turns out. With notes it will also help to have multiple colors to organize lessons/work.

If this is the jump we get from the first generation then I am expecting us to have 3D hologram projectors in our palms within the next decade or so.

Day 1 review is a solid 85/100.

I don’t get a lot of time to read on weekdays. But, on weekends, it’s me and my kindle together.

Yes I know it’s not colour although many would agree that’s a plus. It’s not USBC and compared to other devices the battery is a little disappointing, but the weight, the balance and the fact whether right or left handed, you can swing the whole device round and use it that way.

It’s got somewhere to rest your thumb that doesn’t encroach on the screen. I’ve tried a Kobo Libra which feels clunky and heavy to get my button fix, and I’ve tried a signature paper white and my thumb has to awkwardly sit back on the side of the device. Sorry to bang on about it…but what a device. I just hope mine keeps hanging on.

Hey everyone!
I've been working on Orbit eReader, a custom interface for my Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition that runs directly on the device’s existing Linux system.
The goal is to build a different experience from the stock Kindle UI, with a clean, minimalist design and custom apps for reading, managing files, taking notes, and more.
It’s still a work in progress, but I wanted to share a quick demo of what’s working so far.
What do you think? Any ideas or suggestions are welcome!

My Alix Clicker arrived, I went for the Pro version with extended battery, it cost 13 euros, and after going through the firmware update process, it's connected to my 2024 Colorsoft and the functions work fine.

Page forward, Page back, Brightness control - higher and lower and Kindle power off.

Props to u/Hgchua for the heads up.

Ordered on 10/12 and just got notified it’s being delivered on 11/4. What’s the point of pre-ordering? 🤨
