Okay word, in the instructions it just says to put kinds on airplane mode, wasn’t sure if I needed to fill my storage. Also in the prerequisites it says “Be on PW5, PW5SE, KT5 (possibly KOA3, KOA3W32C)” so would this not work on 12th gen? ):

I can't see your whole file path. In the instructions it states exactly where to add the files, i believe it is the root of the kindle directory

Just tested that on my (already jailbroken) KOA3 which is on 5.18.2 (latest available fw). It did actually trigger the jailbreak script. Cool.

I jailbroke it when it already was on 5.18.2 - got it off EBay like that. For my other Kindle, which is also KOA3, I upgraded from ancient ~2 years old firmware and also jailbroke it with AdBreak.

You just put it straight into the Kindle's storage. No subfolder or anything, just drop the 3 files directly in.

Yes, you will have to disable airplane mode to connect at that part! Make sure your Kindle is filled - the webpage cannot load without the internet. Sorry I didn't elaborate on that further, just a bit burnt out right now

You will, if your storage isn’t filled. If your storage is filled, airplane makes no difference, it can’t update.

What do you mean by filling storage? Like I have to max out my storage before this can work?

Not so that is “allows” it to work.

But filling your storage makes it so the firmware update doesn’t automatically download and run, since there’s no space for it.

It’s the only safe way to run the jailbreak.

Right, what Shaneman said. If you turn off airplane mode, even for a minute, the Kindle reaches out to Amazon to check in and see if there's new firmware/account changes/new books, etc. If it sees there is a newer software version available, it *will* start downloading. If you turn airplane back on, it *will* KEEP downloading, even though the airplane logo is on the screen. And if it finishes downloading? It *will* install, no matter if you're doing something or not.

This is why people set out to jailbreak and end up installing an update unexpectedly when they're only halfway done.

Having your storage filled up so it can't finish the update (updates are all around 300MB, so keep free space low, around 100-200MB free at MOST), or putting the Kindle in a mylar bag (chip bag) and closing it are the only ways to definitely stop an update from getting through.

I turned off airplane mode and browser was not showing Bezo's guy. It showed a girl running. It was slow then I though that something wrong. I restart my Kindle and BUMP! It automatic update to 5.19.2. Now Browser showing Bezo's guy with L. What should I do now? Waiting again?

PSA: Quick way to check if your Kindle is MTP (Unsupported) or Mass Storage (Ready for Nosebleed JB)

Since the new "Nosebleed" jailbreak only works on mass-storage devices and NOT MTP devices (like the new PW6/KT6), here is the fastest way to verify what you have before you start:

Plug your Kindle into your PC.

Look at the Kindle's screen:

Mass Storage (Jailbreakable): You see a full-screen "USB Drive Mode" overlay with an image of a USB cable. You cannot use the Kindle's library or read while it's plugged in unless you manually "Eject" it from your computer.

MTP (NOT Supported): You see a smaller "Connected to computer" box or no overlay at all. You can still browse your library and read books on the Kindle while it is actively connected and transferring files.

Check Windows File Explorer:

Mass Storage: Your Kindle appears as a standard Removable Disk with a specific drive letter (like D: or E:).

MTP: Your Kindle appears as a Portable Device or "Media Device" named "Kindle," but it does not have a drive letter.

Important: Even if you have an 11th Gen Paperwhite (PW5), Amazon has been pushing firmware updates (like 5.17.x and later) that switch some units to MTP. If you see that "USB Drive Mode" screen, you are still on mass-storage and likely good to go!

I have a 11th gen basic (2024) on 5.18.6. When I connect to the computer it shows a full screen exacly like you described in mass storage. I can succesfully pass files through USB as it was a pen-drive, but the kindle apears as "Kindle", not as E:. Should I try nosebleed JB? What happens if I try and it doesn't work?

I successfully installed KOReader on my Kindle Oasis Gen 10, 32 GB (KOA3, KOA3W32C), Fireware 5.18.2. The process worked flawlessly without any issues. I’m now ready to start using KOReader on my Kindle.🎉🤗

Just done in my 5.18.1 (that was stuck due to Ads option not available) and it works perfectly. Just one note: I had to change the language to English (United States) for it work, while I was with Portuguese (Brazil) it did not start the jailbreak.

Kindles that use MTP instead of mass storage. Basically means the 11th and 12th gen, Colorsoft, some Scribes. Kindles from the last 2-3 model years. Those are MTP.

They are not jailbreakable by this method, and likely never will be. Other methods work. MTP Kindles without an existing jailbreak, running firmware 5.18.6 or newer, cannot be jailbroken by any known means at this time. Work continues, as always.

Yes, it's not meant to, sorry. Although it was originally designed to support PW4/KT4 the jailbreak developer ran into complications. It could possibly support it in the future but right now for whatever reason the jailbreak is extremely unreliable on PW4 systems

Ensure you are on a supported device; It will not work on MTP devices (e.g. 11th gen 2024), only KT5 and PW5(SE). KT4/PW4 is not supported either.

MTP is how it talks over USB to a computer vs presenting storage as if it were a flash drive. Newer Kindles and firmwares use MTP, which allows Amazon to filter what can be accessed and block access to files that are useful for jailbreaks.

Nothing happens when I tap on the L on Bezos forehead. I'm not sure if I put the files in the right folder. I just put the nosebleed folder next to the audible and documents folder. The first folder that appears after I open Kindle on Finder. I'm trying on a PaperWhite 11th gen. Any help? What could I be doing wrong?

Ensure Wi-Fi is enabled the entire time, even after you load the webpage initially, ensure you are on a supported model, and ensure JavaScript is enabled in browser settings :)

Also, if it's just white and nothing happens ensure files have been copied properly!!

MTP stands for media transfer protocol. Basically, it's a shitty thing amazon did that makes computers not recognize newer kindles as a storage device, therefore making adding external files harder, therefore more difficult to jailbreak.

And no, unfortunately, you can't use this method with a 12th gen paperwhite if it has 5.18.6. Any kindle released since 2024 is MTP.

Why is PW4 not supported? I have a Paperwhite 10th Gen on 5.18.1, and I thought it would be supported, why is so different from the pw5 that it cannot be jailbroken with this JB?

Ask the jailbreak developer in the Kindle Modding Community. It was just found to be unreliable and we could not reproduce the jailbreak on said model.
